Hundreds of Million Facebook User Data Leaks and Can Be Public Access
Facebook social networking giant Facebook has been overwritten by problems related to the privacy of its users. This time information about hundreds of millions of Facebook user data collected by application developers, reportedly leaked and can be accessed by the public freely.
Sensitive information on Facebook user data collected includes passwords, comments, likes, and Facebook IDs and some other important information.
As reported by Routers page Thursday (4/4/2019), the leaked data of Mark Zuckerberg's social media service users was first delivered by security company UpGuard.
In its report, security company UpGuard detailed what information was known to have leaked to the public. According to UpGuard, there are two kinds of data packages that specifically contain Facebook user information.
The first package came from Mexican media company, Cultra Collectiva , where 146GB of data contained personal information of 540 million Facebook users.
While the second data package is called "At the Pool" which is a third party application found on the public Amazon S3 server.
Even though the user data information from this application is smaller than the data from Cultra Collectiva, the information in the form of user password and e-mail data reaches 22 thousand accounts. In addition, in the second data package there is also sensitive information such as Facebook likes from users.
"The data set varies when it was last updated. Both of them contain data about Facebook users, describe their interests, relationships and interactions that are available to third-party developers, "explained UpGuard regarding the Facebook user information leak.
Meanwhile, related to the leaking of user data information that befell their services, Facebook immediately reacted by immediately removing all of the data from the Amazon cloud server.
"Facebook's policy prohibits storing Facebook information in public databases," said a Facebook spokesman.
Facebook also said if the company's internal parties had investigated the incident. But until now there has been no official statement regarding the nature of the data, as well as how user data is collected or why it is stored on public servers.
Facebook will notify users and release information to the public if they find evidence that the data is misused.
This incident again adds a long list of problems related to user privacy experienced by the social networking giant media. As we know, last year, facebok also made a public scene following the report, which said Cambridge Analytica obtained millions of Facebook users' personal data without their knowledge.
